For healthcare CEOs and boards

Healthcare marketing for CEOs: what it should deliver, how it works

Healthcare marketing for CEOs is marketing measured by what your board tracks: admissions, referrals, specialist retention, occupancy and reputation. Brighter Health is an Adelaide-based specialist agency that plans, creates and buys that marketing for hospitals, aged care, specialist and allied health providers across Australia.

  • Theatre lists or occupancy soft? Start with a marketing audit your board can act on.
  • Specialists want more referrals? Run a pooled specialist campaign that gives every practice reach none could buy alone.
  • Launching a service or redevelopment? Plan the story, the referrers and the media together, well before opening day.
  • Already have a marketing team? We add strategy, creative and media buying alongside them.

What Brighter Health is, and what it is not

Brighter Health is the healthcare practice of Brighter, an independent branding and marketing agency founded in Adelaide in 1984 by Brenton Murray. We work with hospital CEOs, boards and marketing teams on the commercial problems marketing can move: filling theatre lists, attracting and keeping visiting medical officers (VMOs), converting referrals into admissions, lifting occupancy and protecting reputation through change.

Our clients include private hospitals, aged care providers, radiology and specialist groups, a health insurer, NDIS providers and health tech companies. We cover strategy through to delivery: audits, marketing plans, brand, websites, campaigns, content and media buying.

We are not

  • A generalist agency learning AHPRA rules on your budget.
  • A media shop that reports impressions with no plan behind them.
  • A replacement for your clinical governance. We work inside it.

Results from hospitals and health organisations

Each project started with a commercial problem, not a creative brief. Here's what was asked, what we did and what it delivered.

Stirling Hospital · Private hospital, Adelaide Hills

A Stirling Choice: 11 specialist practices, one regional campaign

The challenge
A private hospital's growth depends on its specialists being known in the regions they serve.
What we did
A dual-brand campaign that gave each practice its own presence in its strongest market, with media planned and negotiated across press, radio, Meta, in practice digital screens and outdoor.

Burnside Hospital · Not-for-profit private hospital, Adelaide

A pooled specialist campaign that changed the economics

The challenge
Individual specialist advertising is small, expensive and disconnected, and does little for the hospital's own brand.
What we did
Specialists contributed to a shared fund. That unlocked TV, outdoor and digital placements no single practice could afford. One dual-brand campaign told the hospital's story and each specialist's, reviewed for AHPRA compliance.

Clinical sign-off from your nominated reviewers.
    Done when
Work is approved, compliant and ready to run.
  4. 04

    Buy and run the media

We plan, negotiate and buy across TV, radio, press, outdoor, digital screens, search and social.

    Done when
    The next decision is obvious.

Choosing

Generalist or specialist: which should you choose?

There's no single right answer. This is an honest comparison, written by a specialist agency, so weigh it accordingly.

Who we're not the right fit for

You need a one-off flyer or social post

A freelancer will be faster and cheaper, and that's the right call.

You want testimonials or guaranteed outcomes in clinical ads

The National Law restricts both. We won't put your organisation at risk to chase a short-term result.

You judge marketing on likes and followers

We report on the measures your board uses. If that's not what you need, we'll point you to someone who fits.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What does a healthcare marketing agency do for a hospital CEO?

It connects marketing to the hospital's commercial goals: theatre utilisation, specialist recruitment and retention, referrals and reputation. At Brighter Health that covers audits, plans, brand, websites, campaigns, content and media buying, reported against measures your board already uses.

How much does healthcare marketing cost in Australia?

Focused projects can sit around $20,000, while integrated campaigns run to more than $80,000 before media. The biggest variables are scope, how many services or specialists are involved, and media spend. We scope and quote before any work begins.

How do you measure whether hospital marketing is working?

We agree the measure up front. Depending on the goal, that's reach, search visibility, enquiries, referral activity, bookings or admissions, where your data allows.

We already have a marketing team. How do you fit in?

Alongside them. We add strategy, creative capacity and media buying around your team's priorities.

Do you only work in South Australia?

No. We're based in Adelaide and work with healthcare organisations across Australia.

Is your work AHPRA and TGA compliant?

Yes. Every campaign is reviewed against AHPRA's advertising guidelines and the Therapeutic Goods Advertising Code before it goes live, alongside your own clinical review.

What is a pooled specialist campaign?

Visiting specialists contribute to a shared media fund. Together they unlock placements and production quality no single practice could afford, while the hospital's brand gets stronger. We developed the model with Burnside Hospital and manage it end to end.

Where do we start?

Most organisations start with a marketing audit: an independent review of brand, digital presence and referral pathways, with recommendations your board can act on.
